Early Fall

The air's still a bit humid, but it's becoming cooler. A chilly breeze blows in from the ocean, along with a few clouds to block out the sun and make it even cooler. It's almost time to pull out your sweaters!

Vampires

I know most of you that are visiting have probably read Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series; however, I know not all of you have, so your knowledge on how these vampires work may not be there. So read through the following and you will know all you need to know.

`+:; First of all, the vampires do not burst into flames when they're in the sun, as you see in many movies and books and stuff. I know that'd be a pretty cool thing to see, but that's not how it works here. They, instead, begin to feel a bit drowsy when first exposed. As they're in the sun longer, they become drowsier and drowsier until, naturally, they conk out. Pretty simple, right? Because of this many vampires choose not to be out in the sun too horribly much, which is why they're typically pale.

`+:; Transformation into a vampire
The transformation is first and foremost a very, very painful experience. As in all, if not the majority, of the stories and whatnot, it is done by bite. While at first the bite may be an exciting, pleasurable experience, but the actual changing is a horrible one.
The vampire bites into their victim, the majority of the time around a major vein or artery of some kind. They proceed to suck on them until most of their blood is taken from their bodies and they are near death. Then a special agent in the vampire's saliva enters their bloodstream and changes what is left of the white and red blood cells, which are low at this point in time. Because of this immediately following the bite the biter must allow the "bitee" to latch onto them for only a moment, transfusing the vampire's blood into the "bitee" so that they are able to survive. This blood remains inside the "bitee" for anywhere from half a year to a year after being bitten, depending on how much had been taken. After this supply is gone they then have the choice to feed on animal or human blood.
The moment the agent from the saliva takes over the "bitee's" body, the heart stops beating and they are now considered undead. They are unable to move or anything of the sort anywhere around a week following, for they're too weak at first.
NOTE: If your character is human and you want them to be bitten, you have to get it approved by a member of the staff.

`+:; Changes
Physically nothing changes when a human is transformed into vampire. They also can not change into bats, despite popular belief... Aging discontinues, and because of this, so do normal bodily functions, such as a female's monthly cycle. This also means that when transformed they become sterile, meaning that the female vampire is unable to become pregnant and the males are unable to get them pregnant.

Their eyes remain the color they had been before being turned. The only exceptions are after a vampire has just turned, when their eyes would be a reddish tint because they are still consuming the blood given from the one that bit them, and when they have not fed for awhile. In this case their eyes normally darken, the intensity depending on how hungry they are. They also may have bluish circles under their eyes similar to what a human would have when tired.

As mentioned before, the skin of vampires is not naturally a pasty white. If they're of a darker skin tone when bitten, they'll keep that skin tone. As also mentioned before, vampires may be a bit pale because they choose not to go outside too horribly often to keep themselves from becoming drowsy. However, every vampire's skin is ice cold, thanks to the lack of a heart beat to send the blood coursing throughout the body, which in turn helps heat the body. So it only makes sense that because their heart isn't beating, they aren't getting warmed.

And now to probably the most popular of attributes: fangs! Now, despite popular belief, they don't really have fangs, or any extremely elongated canines of any kind. However, their canines are somewhat pointier than normal human canines, and are razor sharp. Many vampires in their earlier years obtain scars on their lower lips from accidental bites.

`+:; Thirst and Hunger
We all know that vampires heart blood; they need it to survive. This is the same in all stories, and if it weren't they wouldn't be real vampire stories, would they? How long they can go without feeding depends on what they eat, and their eating habits in general. Human blood provides vampires with the most amount of energy, nourishment, or whatever you'd like to call it. Animals also provide vampires with these things; however, a single animal typically gives less than a single human would. Many typically subsitute by preying on larger game, devouring the blood of multiple animals in one sitting, or hunting more frequently.
When hunting vampires sometimes tend to become oblivious to what is going on around them, their senses being turned on catching their prey. Sometimes they may get entirely wrapped up in the scent, sight, sound, etc, of their prey's blood. As a vampire gets older they can learn to control this.
If a vampire goes for prolonged periods of time without feeding, they can become even more dangerous than they normally are. Their more primal instincts may kick in, rendering them unable to control their more humane side. This also may become more controllable as a vampire gets older.

`+:; Special Attributes all Vampires have
  • Speed: Vampires. Are. Fast. Enough said.
  • Strength: It is advised not to get a vampire angry. They can easily pick up cars and even heavier objects. It takes some time and effort to learn to control their strength, or they may end up crushing a few fragile humans on accident.
  • Heightened Sences

`+:; Special Abilities
These attributes are unique to each vampire. Sometimes they are passed from biter to "bitee", but on other occasions they are not. These include, but are not limited to, telekinesis, telepathy, and the pyrokinesis
NOTE: Each vampire only has one. We reserve the right to have you change a power if it has already been taken multiple times, or if it's just outrageous.

Humans

I'm not going in depth about humans. If you don't know about humane physical attributes, senses, and all that jazz, that's... interesting, because as far as I know, you are human yourself.

All I'm going to say is that there are normal humans, and there are hunters. Hunters are pretty self explanatory also. They track down werewolves and vampires. There are few of these in the world, for vampires and werewolves "only exist in stories and legends." The ones that do exist have typically trained themselves to become stronger, and have also studied quite extensively all possible weaknesses and strengths present in each race.

Werewolves

Werewolves are personally Kristi's favorite. She loves them to death. But enough of that, back to sounding serious.

Werewolves, just like their vampire enemies, are quite complicated creatures. Stephenie Meyer's depiction of them is quite unique in several ways. Once again, some of you may not have read any of the Twilight series, so I will explain the werewolf species as much as I can.

`+:; Transformation into a werewolf
In many stories if a werewolf bites a human, the human transforms into a werewolf. This is not the case at all. Werewolves are only created when vampires are neighboring their land; this helps in protecting that land. The transformation occurs around the point where the person becomes a mature adult, and is followed by a sudden growth spurt. At first it was thought that only males could become werewolves, but it's been proven that on rare occasions females may transform as well. So far only one female werewolf has sprouted in the Heliosente tribe.

The transformation itself is not dependent at all upon a full moon. In younger werewolves who have not learned to control their transformations, a lack of self-control over one's emotions and actions can trigger it involuntarily. They seem to often be triggered by anger, which may turn out ugly in the end.
In any case, the transformation is a quick, sudden process. To some it may be even quicker, depending on their lineage. If they're closer related to the packs of old than another werewolf, they're more likely to transform at a quicker rate than the other.

After they transform, the wolf is inside them for life. While they are still able to transform they do not age; however, when they don't transform for long periods of time, they may start to age again.

`+:; In wolf form, they are still in complete control over their human minds. This means that everything the wolf-side does, the human mind knows about. It is, however, possible for a werewolf to lose its temper to the point that they become out of control as both a human and wolf.

`+:; Changes
In human form, their skin is burning hot. Their temperature is normally around 108-109 degrees, and it's common for their bodies to remain at this temperature consistently. This contrasts with the vampire's icy cold touch, which possibly has to do with their being natural enemies.

As mentioned before, after reaching the stage in the life where they may begin transformation, they have a sudden growth spurt. The males typically get much taller and their build enlarges, while females normally just get taller and slightly more built.

`+:; Special Abilities

  • Mind-reading: Werewolves have the ability to read each other's thoughts while in beast form. They have no control over it -- they can't shut it off. When they think, all the other werewolves in beast form can "hear" them. This can be a big help regarding communication when hunting.
  • Heightened Sense of Smell: Their sense of smell has changed to particular pinpoint the location of their enemies, vampires. To them a vampire's smell is repelling, and can be picked up from quote a distance.
  • Super-strength
  • Rapid Healing: When a werewolf is injured, it doesn't take long at all for them to heal. What would normally take weeks, even months to heal, takes only a matter of moments to repair.

`+:; Imprinting is a huge part of what makes a werewolf who they are. Imprinting is when said werewolf finds the one person they are destined to be with forever. It's described as not something like love at first sight; instead, it's more of a feeling that their sense of gravity moves. No longer is the earth what keeps their feet planted on the ground -- it is that person. Nothing matters more than them.

`+:; In movies, stories, and legends, werewolves are killed or wounded by anything silver. In all actuality, it doesn't hurt them any more than any other kind of metal object would. If you want to go out and buy silver bullets, go right ahead; however, you could have just as easily saved a lot of money by buying regular bullets.
